Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican sweet bread that is commonly made during Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos). Loved ones who have passed away are honored by leaving them offerings (“ofrendas”) at their gravesites or at altars made at home. The offerings left for the dead usually consist of what the loved one enjoyed when they were alive. In addition to the deceased’s favorite food and drink, a piece of pan de muerto is also placed as an offering.
These paper mache pan de muertos are handmade by artisans in San Miguel de Allende with such realistic details that you will have to stop yourself from eating them! They are the perfect addition for your altars and Día de Muertos décor.
