For the month of July, we're recognizing a woman who is incredibly genuine and believes that helping others is an important act of reciprocity. Join us in celebrating creator Merijam Roelofs of Folk Project.
Artelexia's You Are Radiant Award celebrates Creator Merijam Roelofs
Merijam is the creative force behind Folk Project, a furnishing and décor company where contemporary pieces are upholstered in textiles from Mexico and Central America.
Her unique furniture not only brings smiles to her customers all over the world, but because she hires artisans mainly from Chiapas, sources products from Guatemala, and donates to several non-profits, her reach is very wide, helping many along the way. She directly helps the artisans and their families who provide the fabrics, and she is always willing to lend a hand whenever she can help someone in need.
As one of many examples, at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, she donated over 600 protective masks for the Minority Humanitarian Foundation, which helps migrant communities, and Orenda Tribe, which directly supports the deeply affected Navajo Nation.
Through the sale of Chapina dolls on her website, which are made out of fabric scraps in order to be eco-friendly, she donates all the proceeds to the Women Justice Initiative, an NGO aiming to improve the lives of Guatemalan women and girls through education.
Merijam is an incredible woman with a creative vision and heart. She really deserves a special shout out for everything she does. Thank you, Merijam!
